The only reason they wouldn't do that to Rose is because she was a Diamond. They killed, "shattered" gems just for being different. She was just being emotional, she'd get over it, right? Is that selfish? Perhaps, but what alternative was there, when as soon as she returned, White would simply chastise her and undo all of the work they'd done? Nothing she could say had any difference, once White had decided something, it was absolute, and nothing would have made any difference, and she KNEW that, because they are her family.Īs soon as 'Pink' went home, they would take away her "toys", and would likely force her to, if not at least make her watch as they handed down harsh judgement on the most problematic of her friends. And then for a longer time, she didn't care to reconcile with them. There was no getting through to them that way, because for a long time, she thought that she had said all she could. The other diamonds already had their minds made up. She FOUND her people, the crystal gems, the "off-colors", the ones that "her people" cast away, callously cracked and shattered, disregarded and called worthless, dull, useless. But Rose represents more than just a princess who forsook her people, no. The just expected her to "act like a diamond", but instead she simply acted how she wanted, because nobody ever really taught her how a diamond should act they just expected her to do it, and be good at it, immediately, like all other gems. We take it for granted that Rose led the rebellion and clearly had some kind of leadership prowess, but it wasn't always like that. "Then why don't you ACT like it, Pink!?" No instruction, no patience, no anything. ![]() She was simply expected to know what to do and how to do it. The thing is, 'Pink' was never "parented", or given guidance on how to act. Rose, before she assumed that name, was shown, directly, indirectly, and heavily alluded to be the most social of the diamonds, and also the least trusted they didn't take almost anything she said or talked about seriously, which is likely some of what led to her "Tantrums" in which she damaged Pink Pearl, and one of which we see about her not getting a colony. The only reason White was able to be won over at all is because Steven wasn't Pink Diamond, and it was really the struggle of getting through to her that she drove her "Starlight" away, never to return or so much as speak to her again.Ĭertain theorists who shall remain nameless posit that if Rose had simply talked to the Diamonds, they would have changed, in much the same way as we see with "The Steven Effect." But this is simply not the case. People like to blame Rose for a lot of stuff nowadays, and not wrongfully, but I feel like she gets too much blame now, and it's mostly because she was lying about that one crucial fact, the truth of her family.
